Compare tool

Discount vs Points or Cashback

Compare what you pay now with the reward value you realistically expect to use later.

Assumes 1 point equals 1 unit of the selected currency.

What the result means

Compare what you pay now with the reward value you realistically expect to use later.

Example

On a $100 purchase, 10% off costs $90. A 15% reward used in full has an effective cost of $85, but at 50% usage its effective cost is $92.50.

How it works

Discounted cost = price × (1 − discount rate)
Usable reward = price × reward rate × usage rate
Effective reward cost = price − usable reward

A common mistake

15% cashback or points usually does not reduce today’s payment by 15%. You generally pay the full amount before receiving value later.
